Default My truck is not happy...

got back a 3rd oil analysis today, @ 5000 miles on the current amsoil, copper @ 118 ppm & silver @ 3.3 ppm at 15k I had iron @ 140 ppm, copper @ 306 ppm & silver @ 3.7 ppm...

tomorrow I'm going to yank the AFE, bypass setup & TST to go back to as stock as I can, then swap the oil for dino oil and flush the motor after 500 miles.

what do you guys make of this?

they mention to check for the following... exhaust backpressure, operating temperatures, worn/broken rings, excessive idling, hung valves, improper fuel settings, air intake restrictions...

on this oil, I've been in the backcountry several times andbeat on it pretty good... I've cleaned the AFE filter with a full cleaning, then a light cleaning by vacuuming off the dirt. the inside looks good but the outside not so good, thats why I cleaned it (after trail runs). the inside of the intake tube has been clean. I think back to the DF member who had air filter troubles and it just concerns me the way the filter looks. I referenced the AFE site and it says i'm cleaning it the right way.

IDK Steve ,
but that sounds like a lot of metal.
There wasn't a lot of soot or silenium in this report?
I don't know a lot of this stuff ,but maybe U might have a bearing going out.

What mopar says... copper and silver relate to bearing materials and the iron could be the bearing seat. What was the chrome count? Silicon will mean dirt. what was the Nitrates?... Nitratesis oil break down- overheating, poor cooling, wrong lube, excessive service or contaminated sample.

Sorry Steve hope I'm not upsetting you too much...
high copper could also be generated by an oil additive (MMO/PS...ect), oil cooler (condenser failure) fuel pump wearing out, or even from a thread sealing compound!

Drop the oil and if you can flush engine. I've seen many oil analysis show wear metals only to dissapear after an oil change and the new sample taken show excellent results. This may be all you have to do... try it bud, before you change things too much and perhaps buy another filter (AFE ). I have two myself so one is always clean and ready to go...so far my oil analysis have come back clean, and Ibet I'm driving in a lot more dust then you are.

how are you cleaning your filter?

the only additives I use are the PSD & 2 stroke... maybe it's something in the two stroke??? I'll have a look for the MSD sheet on it... walmart TCW3 2 stroke oil...

it might be the 2 stroke... looks like there very few of us that are having oil analysis done, I don't run 2 storke, could be the cause... I use to run the "brew" now running gen49. I also re-read your posts...looks like the copper, silver and soot are on the way down, which is good. Try another oil change real quick run new oil for a few 100miles or 10 to 20 hrs get another sample to test see what you get.

oh yeah ..as far as cleaning the filter... I have a bucket which fill with "simple green" water mix nothing too strong,I then immerse the filter completely let it sit, some times over night, then rinse real well with clean water, dry then oil her.

not to sure about them being on the way down... the # of miles on this sample is 1/3 of the last sample... 5k vs 15k... one thing not mentioned was the bypass filter was not changed... leaving approx 1.5 quarts of old oil in the system. you'd think it shouldnt be a problem since it's going thru the bypass filter. btw, the sample came out of the bypass filter so if it was doing it's job, the particle size should not be greater than 2 microns.
