Default question for anyone who works on ctd

I have the 24 valve in a 01 dodge. It appears that there is an oil leak behind the harmonic balancer (if the diesel calls it the same thing as a gasser). I would assume it is the front crank seal. Is this replacable withoug disassembling the engine?

It is more than likely your vacuum pump seal. I had a similar leak and it was the seal. Cost about $50-60 to fix. You can get a kit with a better seal at www.fixinrams.com. It has a video and includes the tools, seal, gaskets to fix it. Don't replace the pump because you'll get the same crappy seal.

It MAY just be the by-pass hose whereas that leak that you see is totally normal.

Replaced the vacuum pump seal, the kit is great great instuctions, nice parts. Even sends you the tool to do the job. Next is the front main seal, hope that stops all of the oil leaking once and for all. The pump no longer leaks though!!!
