Default Transmission Upgrades

I was talking with the folks at Edge today about what you can stack with the juice. At the end of the conversation the guy says if I am going to do these things plan on getting a transmission. With the few things I have done so far my transmission is not liking it. Can I get by with upgrades to TC and such or do I need to go all the way. Stock auto has 19,000 on it now. What are you upgrading to?

If you're going to upgrade the TC you might as well go the whole way since the trans will have to be pulled out. I just had mine rebuilt not too long ago, but if I had to do it again I'd call ATS and talk with them. They build some helacious transmissions that can handle a lot of power and torque.

I think I can feel my torque converter slipping when I floor it, I was wondering if I needed to get a new TQ or get a transmission controller that will adjust the lockup. We have basically the same truck. If you buy a lift, dont get The TGC 6"

on the 06, I wouldnt bother with the trans controller. . .the stock computer for the 48RE on your 06 is good enough.

valve bodies are easy to replace, when you start looking at the torque converter you would be better off getting a billet flex plate, billet input shaft, and possably upgradeing the clutches inside the trans depending on how much power your putting out in conjunction with the torque converter.

Ok, so with my 06 48re, the tranny/torque converter is fairly up to the job? And a Valve body upgrade wouldn't push it out of its limits? If you say yes to that, would you tell me if I could do it myself with regular hand tools and a sunday to work on it?

Default RE: Transmission Upgrades

I just talked to TS performance about using the mp8 to keep the rail wet when I have my tripdog cranked up, and he said it would work fine and I also asked him if it would work if I dicided to upgrade to a moded or dual CP3 and he also said it would work fine and recommended an additional inline fuel pump. However, in his opinion a transmission upgrade would be neccessary, tq before the valve body. I'm not trying to question your wisdom, but do you think he was talking about after I go extreme with the modded or dual cp3's? Should I just look into the valve body and forget what he said?

im looking into options myself for the 47re (2002) automatic...im a diesel mechanic for dump trucks etc, so i was thinking about learning hokw to rebuild pickup tranny, so i might price it out and see if its worth it compared to a drop in from ats
