Default new to diesel, engine detailing

Hello all, I'm new to the diesel engine and I really want to detail (clean) my engine compartment especially the gutter areas etc. Is there anything under the hood I should avoid getting water on?? I figured not around the CAI, but anything else?? Thanks.
Also, I've ordered isspro gauges from DieselManor almost a month ago (8/12) and still haven't gottten the kit - pyro, 60lb boost, Fuel pressure triple a-pillar. Originally they said the pyro's were on backorder. but they said they should be in by friday the week of the order. Starting to get annoyed. Anyone else have this issue?? I might go with different gauges if they can't get them - maybe dipricol. I think i'm going to call them again tommorrow anyway. thanks

I'd cancel the order and give Geno's Garage a call (genosgarage.com). They've got the Isspro's as well as Autometer, Westach, etc. They also have great customer service and a ton of other parts. A 60psiboost gauge is a little overkill since the stock turbo can only put out about 35psi max andnormally runs around25 or so. As for cleaning I'd stay away from the alternator and any exposed electricalplugs. What I've done in the past is have the engine running and wash it then. It'll helpheat up the oil and grease on the engine and also let you know if you're doing something you shouldn't if the engine startsrunningwierd or dies out. Good luck.

Hit it with a steam cleaner, all plugs should be water tight seals from the factory. Just be careful around sensors and such.

Speaking of guages...........I am trying to decide which set to by for my truck. What brand and model match the stock gauges the best? Anyone have any pictures of their gauges that match the stockers?

i don't have any pics, but i put autometer phantom gauges in my '07. the phantom model i have matches the dash setup in the daylight, nightime they have a white face, the phantom 2 model changes to the same face as the dash at night, check out the autometer site and they give an illumination guide.

Check out the DIY thread stickied at the top. You'll fnd a pretty detailed step by step guide on how to install gauges in there that I did a while ago.

As far as cleaning the engine compartment goes, I cover the electrical stuff and air filter with plastic bags and squirt the engine down with full strength simple green. After letting it soak in for a while,I just use a hose to blast it off. It works really good and it's bio-degradable so it's OK for the drain / environment.
