Default Plastic valve cover

On my 05 5.9 there is a plastic valve cover I am sure that there is a real cover under it and this is just cosmetic, would it hurt to drive the truck without it on for while? I want to paint the Cummins emblem red to match my truck but prepping it alone will probably take a day and then paint and dry and all that fun stuff.

Just drop the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. You know you want to....

Actually I'd paint the cover myself. As long as there are secondary covers for the valves I'd say you're ok. And I believe there are still in the '05.

Ultimately that is the plan, but in the mean time I would like to do a little myself, I think it would look nice for now with the painted emblems to match the truck. I have the billet cover on my list of dreams uhhh I mean mods. but I am going for the usefull mods first. and hopefully tires next summer. I really hate these bfg all terrain ko's. can not wait for the x terrains to hit my truck.

I was checking ebay for a billet cover to see the price difference if any, and I stumbled upon this.

it wont hurt a thing. . .it is only there for cosmetic purposes, and a cooler place to put the engine data stickers.
