somethins not quite right...
changed my upper and lower rad hoses today. filled the rad up 50/50 with H2O and antifreeze...has not bubbled out air, nor pressurized lines. drova around the block a few times with no change. the hoses are hot, the rad cap is hot., and the over flow is still flow. the rad did drop maybe an inch in that time.
could it be a faulty thermostat or H2O pump???
maybe even a bad rad cap not holding its own?????
what yall think???
btw..its a 93 ctd 1st gen 12v 346k miles and a loose nut behind the wheel...

Hey Bajafun,
When your thermostat opens, you can look in the radiator & see the coolant flowing with the cap off. If the coolant isn't flowing, the thermostat is still closed. Did you get it up to operating temperature?

did you burp it as you added coolant??? on my jeep when I changed the coolant I just filled up thea rad and started it up. it ended up overheating as I let it idle up to temp and I was like wtf. turned out what you have to do is grab the upper rad hose and squeeze it. this burps out the air through the opening in radiator. cap ahs to be off as well. becauseif you hget an air pocket aroudn the water pump then the pump just cavitates I think the proper word is so possibly that's ur problem I dunno tho.
ran it to operating temp with cap off. exercised upper and lower rad hoses to get the air out. no change in water level. drove it this mornin. temp guage stays about where it should be, even with the a/c on.
guessin ill just replace the t-stat.
you know where it is??? behind the alternator mounting bracket [:@]
have to drop the alt, then remove the bracke, along with the stat housing....

Wait a minute, is it getting up to temp? If it is and doesn't take an hour to do so, the tstat is working. If you get it up to temp and pull the cap off and there is no pressure, then you need a new cap.
the rad cap has the pressure release valve. when I arrived home erlier with it, I hit the release and pressure steamed out.
