Default turbo silencer ring

Is there a silencer ring on the turbo? If so, if removed will you loose boost or see potential issues due to it being removed? Does is really make that big of a difference in the sound of the turbo spool?

I pulled the ring out of mine the second day i had the truck. i did not notice any performance gains or losses but you can hear the terbo a little better. i have heard that if you get an aftermarket intake the sound is much more pronounced.

Not sure which engine you have, but the silencer ring is different on the 6.7L CTD. MUCH more difficult to remove (and it ain't going back in either).

It just makes the turbo louder due to not being baffled anymore. Personally I like the sound.
