Fuel Gauge Question

Fuel Gauge Question
I usually start looking to fill up when I get down to a 1/4 of a tank. The past two tanks I filled up right when my fuel light came on and my truck only held 25-26 gallons both times. I know the tank is 34 gallons on a SWB. Is this normal? Seems like it should come on just a little later. I sure could use an extra 50 miles on a tank. I just get nervous driving with the fuel light on.

RE: Fuel Gauge Question
If you have the time and are **** like me, you can squeeze another 5 gallons in your tank after the pump clicks off. It is a pain and takes longer for that last 5 than the rest of the fill up. Pump really slow until you see the foam right up to the top, repeast until you see clear fuel all the waty up to the filler neck and it doesn't go down any more. Don't do this and then park the truck, because you are using up the expansion room in the tank. I do it because I usually fill up and run for half a day before I park it, and I don't like to stop for fuel as often. When I am near or just below the 1/4 mark I usually take on 30 +/- gallons.

RE: Fuel Gauge Question
Ok. My fuel light usually comes on about the 1/8th mark. Maybe closer to a 1/16 haven't drove it in a while not sure. But on dead E (yes i've run it that low a few times.) with my DTE on 0 miles left I've filled up with 30 gallons till the pump clicked and then ran a little more after the foam settled. It says in the book i have a 32 or 34 gallon tank And i've run out of fuel before too. Now from my understanding which could be wrong is they leave a couple gallons in there after the point of empty to help keep your system primed if your running really low on fuel. Oh on a side note. You can get your truck started if you ever do run out of fuel and don't have tools. No don't spray wd 40 or starting fluid or anying. Just will take alot longer if you can't get your fuel filter opened. But anyways when you turn your key on and hear that little motor it's the lift pump and the heating element. Anyways. if you can get your fuel filter opened. fill the canister up with diesel. close it down. Put diesel in your tank. turn key on off on off. Try turning it over no longer than 3-5 seconds. let it sit for a minute or two do the key thing a couple times and retry turning it over. Only thing is if you keep cranking on it you can overheat your starter. Then you'd be umm s.o.l. Otherwise not smart to do, but in some situations does happen. Just thought it'd help.
