Default Differential Fluid Change Intervals

Hey all - been out a while, just enjoying the truck. I took it in to the stealership yesterday for some warranty work on the HVAC (lots of fan noise, but almost no air coming out). So, the service manager was kind enough to offer to change my differential fluids for $145/axle. My question is - do you really need to change diff fluid every 15k miles as he suggested? My truck has 20k, and I'd rather put AMSOIL in both ends when I do change it, but I wouldn't have thought 15k would even touch that stuff. Any thoughts?

As long as you don't run your truck in the mud a lot or dunk the axles in water/mud (if you do you know you have to change the fluid all the time, since water gets by the seals), I prefer putting Amsoil (or other synthetic) in my axles once and forget about it for a good 100k miles or so. My $0.02

25-30K and your ok. . .

but why pay $145/axel when you can do it for WAY less yourself, and that is while useing the good stuff. . .Amsoil

I bought a $25 marine oil pump (used to change oil in marine motors) and pumped it out thru the fill hole... took about 15~20 minutes total for each axle, no mess & no fuss. Since the axles only had 45k on them I did not think yanking the cover was needed yet. next time though...

didnt someone do a DIY on this already?

Personally I plan on going to Mag-Hytec covers on bboth ends and the tranny at about 25k and that is also when I plan to do the ole' Amsoil swappy. Just hit 7000 miles last week and per the owners manual I will be changing my oil soon to Amsoil or RP.

I would hold off on a synth swap in the motoruntil 25~30k miles on the clock. gives the motor enough time to break in all the way

Thanks guys - that's what I thought. I'll definitely run AMSOIL as that's all I run in my race cars and I have all the stuff to do it myself. I think I'll let it all tick over 30k miles then change motor and axle at same time again.

Thanks again, this forum rocks!
