I do have a complete 4" straight pipe on mine and i will say that when i towed 12k+ on a 6 hour round trip i could still start off in second gear with no problems and i seemed to have plenty of torque at my disposal. Just my experience - hope it helps.

I straight piped mine and actually feel like I gained some power on high end and didnt notice any loss at low rpms. I think Straight Piped, Intake and Chip are prob best 3 things you can do to these engines. (always include gauges)

what did that do to your non-towing driving? my experience was I had to lay into the throttle more to get going...

Steve, i really didn't notice any difference when not towing. I can still idle off in second and take off from a dead stop in third easily, and i feel like i have as much low end grunt as ever. I wonder of the exhaust/tranny combination is the real question here.

lets see here. . .the NV5600 2nd gear is 3.38, with 4.10's that comes to a 13.9:1 ratio, 3rd is 2.04 so that is still a good 8.4:1 final drive. the G56's 2nd gear is a 3.48, so even with 3.73's that comes to 12.98:1 and 3rd is geared at 2.1, 7.83 final drive. . .the 48RE's 1st gear is 2.45, and with your 3.73's your looking at a 9.13:1 final drive. this is not taking into account tire size differences.

another thing to look at is you have more paracidic loss with the auto as opposed to the stick

I agree with Steve. The 5" system(5" within 2" of the turbo elbow) no cat, flow thru muffler, hurt spool up and throttle response. Mileage seemed to be a bit better. EGT's 100 degrees lower across the board, with MUCH faster cool down times. The picture shows the downtube connected to the turbo elbow.

I have the opposite to say here... not to argue but to give a different opinion based on my experince with my truck, an '05. I removed my cat & put in a 30" magnaflow straight thru muffler and lost alot of part throttlelow end torque. mileage went down and I wasnt very happy with the setup. I then added a 4040 aero muffler where the cat used to be and it's design provided enough backpressure (IMO) to help spool the turbo quicker and bring back the low end torque lost w/o it.egt's were still reasonable and better than stock. if your looking for quick 0-60 times or 1/4 mile times and dont tow, sure straight pipe it and you'll be on your way. for towing, I think you need some restriction in there to get you off the line better and the 4040 where the cat was will help with that. it is a compromise between straight thru and not so straight thru. go to the aeroturbine website and have a look at their mufflers and you'll see what I mean.
