Amsoil vs Napa
I just recieved the Amsoil EaA189 filter for my stock replacement to go into my 07 5.9L Ram.
The filter looks identical to the one that I currently was using except for the color of the filter media.
The Napa Gold 2846 is yellow, where the Amsoil filter is blue. The spongy gasket is the same bright orange, the pleats appear to be the same. The pleats even have similar depressions in them. Other than color, the only visual difference I see is the wire screen on top.
I was expecting the nanofiber technology to be some different type of material, it looks just like paper.
Does the Napa Gold 2846 use the same nano-fiber technology as Amsoil? Or do I need a microscope to see any differences?

A quick check with Google and it looks like a Donaldson also uses the Nanofiber technology. Some of the microscopic illustrations are the same as those used on Donaldson's website.
I thought that Amsoil somehow had the edge on nanofiber technology. So, maybe there are others that use the technology, since Donaldson even has an air filter product line with this technology. The Napa Gold doesn't describe itself as nanofiber technology. Napa does describe them in the same vein as Donaldson's nanofiber filters, as far as longevity and ability to hold more dirt, etc.
Interesting, though, is that if the Donaldson filter is the same as Amsoils, Donaldson touts theirs as being able to go twice the distance, but Donaldson doesn't have any advice about cleaning (vacuuming or blowing) to further extend their life.
If they are the same nanofiber technology, the Napa Gold I bought was half the price of the Amsoil filter.

I'm thinking that Donaldson is probably the manufacturer of most or all of Amsoil's filtration products. I noticed when I bought my Donaldson Endurance oil filter on Amsoil.com that it was the same exact price as the Amsoil oil filter. Maybe they're identical except for the labeling? I grew up in the same town as Donaldson (Bloomington, MN), and I don't think they have ever marketed to consumers until Amsoil came along.
Further research and I think you are right... Donaldson makes Amsoil and Wix makes Napa Gold.
Both are high quality paper filters.
The major difference, I think, being that the Ea filter has an additional thin layer of nanofiber bonded to the outer surface of the paper element to catch dust particles; preventing or reducing the amount of dust from becoming lodged into the paper element. (The paper element is not particularly cleanable, but the nanofiber layer is somewhat cleanable by vacuuming or blowing.)

As for the Donaldson/Amsoil air filters, which use the nanofiber technology ... I don't think that they compete against each other. The Donaldson Endurance Air filters I have seen are for big rigs, large diesels and marine. I may be wrong, but I don't think that there is a Donaldson branded Endurance Air filter for our Cummins.
The Wix and Napa should be easy enough to find from your local parts/Napa store or online for your truck.

I just want to replace my factory air filter w/ either an Amsoil or some other oil less nano fiber filter. Does anyone have a link or suggestions on where I can pick one up for my CTD? I would like the ones that you just blow out with air. Thanks
