What is a normal amount of time for the oil pressure gauge to come up on start up? My '99 CTD takes a count of 3 before the needle pops up...it does not matter if it is hot or cold...same 1,2,3,,,pressure. Changing oil and filter did not change anything either. I know I should be worried that the motor will eat up the main & rod bearings due to this but is it normal or not for the Cummins engine?

that sensor looks for a minimum of 5psi. once the 5psi has been established the computer sends a signal to the gage to move. as you see your engine RPM's come up you also see the pressure. . .however this is once again the computer since the pressure 'switch' has satisfied the 5psi need the computer wants to see.
the 12 valve guys I believe the gage was a true indication of pressure. us electronic guys only have a computer model.
