Default Whats different between 2500 & 3500

What is the main difference between the 2500 CTD and the 3500 CTD? Trans, diff, suspension, brakes?
The wife thinks we need to get a 3500 so that we can get a larger 5th Wheel. I don't really want to get a 3500 if the main difference is suspension, I would not want the 4:10 diff and would stay with the automatic trans. I'm prefectly happy with our '05.

The '07 have a 6 speed auto so that might help a little. Other than that there is a difference in the suspension, and the 3500 comes with the 3.73 also. Have you thought about going with a dually?

The difference is a helper spring in the rear, you could add that to the 2500 if you wanted, most go air bags if they want a little more

Really don't want a daully... 6 speed trans would be nice but not worth the price just for that.

Thanks!

the only difference between your 2500 and a 3500 is the rear leaf spring pack. . .there is a helper spring back there. . .that is it.

the 3500 also has a bigger rear axle, although w/ the new 6.7L, it's the same axle on the 2500 and 3500, but your '05 has the smaller one. you can get a higher gear ratio if you opt for the single rear wheel, instead of the standard 4.10 in the dually.

Thanks all for the replies!
I guess the only issue I 'might' get into by just putting on helper springs is an issue with insurance/LEO on the GVWR...

nope. . .all 2/3500's with the diesel come with 11.5 axels since 03. the 2500's with the hemi and the power wagons come with the 10.5's

BTW, my 2500 has the clerance lights

One thing for us in Canada, we have to pay a luxury tax (4%) on the 2500 but not on the 3500.
