I doubt you'll see much difference in mileage with just removing DS... your still turning theaxels, gears, DS and transfer case,as your wheels are still engaged to the axels. With a locking hub you are disengaging the wheels from the axel therefore not runing the axels, gears, DS and transfer case.

Just my $0.02 worth... I may be wrong as I have yet to stay at a Holiday Inn...

If your shaft is rusted to your t-case after you take the bolts out. Pop her into 4 low and just let the power go to the wheels ( truck doesn't have to move much ). I hung, and hammered and did everything else I could think of to try and break it free, finally did that, and worked like a charm. Boy was I mad. You may already know that though, I didn't.

doesn't the kit allow for the hubs to spin free, and prevent even the spider gears in the differential from spinning. By just removing the drive shaft those gears would still have the drag of the front diff. turning. I am considering this kit as well, but was curious about fair comparisons before I dump the cash.

I picked up 2 mpg with free spin hubs. There are REAL mpg savings to be had with these kits and most people report 1-2 mpg increase. Aside from that one overt weakness with the non-servicable factory units is the two bearings in it are placed side by side with no space in between them. When you add big oversized tires to that it's like having them on a pivot point and puts a lot of stress on the bearings making them wear out sooner. Dynatracs and EMS bearings are spaced apart about 3 inches as they should be and oversized tires will not put as much stress on them but if it does new races and bearings are cheap and easy to install. The kit itself is easy to install too. Any of you guys installing them if you need somebody to pop some nice clean holes in the stock hubcaps give me a holler. I've got the perfect setup in my shop and will do it for nothing for any of you as long as you pay the shipping.

I also have the EMS off road kit on mine. I noticed a big improvment with it on mine once put in. I also noticed that the steering in my truck was much nicer and lighter than before. It was money well spent compared to buying a factory bearing at 450 each.
