Trailer Life Cummins MegaCab MPG tests
The newest issue of Trailer Life magazine
has an MPG tips article
that includes a table
where 2006 and 2007 model year Cummins Ram MegaCabs
are tested for MPG at various speeds from 50 to 80 mph
running by themselves without a trailer,
and then a similar MPG vs MPH test is run on the 2007 (I think)
with a 9000 lb trailer.
This is compared to a Ford SuperDuty as well
and the Ford has slightly worse MPG.
I checked the Trailer Life webpage and the article is not online (yet?)

RE: Trailer Life Cummins MegaCab MPG tests
How did they do the test, because if they used the overhead then the test might be flawed. The overhead might be closer to correct at some speeds, I mean if you are standing still it will show zero, which is correct so maybe how far it is off is somewhat dependant on speed. I don't know and I have no way to test that as I don't even have power locks or windows in my truck, just a thought.

RE: Trailer Life Cummins MegaCab MPG tests
Okay here's the data guys:
2007 2500 Mega Cab 4WD 5.9 with a 4.10:1 axle towing a 6900 lb TT
Speed RPM MPG
50 1600 11.8
55 1700 12.5
60 1800 12.2
65 2000 11.1
70 2150 9.9
75 2350 8.5
Next is a comparison between a 2006 and 2007 Mega 2500 both with 5.9's and 4.10's pulling nothing:
Speed RPM MPG(2006) MPG(2007)
50 1550 21.2 21.8
55 1700 20.1 20.5
60 1800 19.8 20.1
65 2000 19.5 20
70 2150 16.2 18.3
75 2350 14.1 16.2
The results are definitely interesting. The test was done hand calculated using the same stretch of highway using multiple runs in both direcrtions and averaging them. I beleive some MPG could be picked up in the 2007, I doubt it was broken in yet.
Here's the data as promised though boys.
