well it all depends on what you want to do with your truck. . .hot rodding, just a boost in performance, or what. . .there are alot out there, edge, quadzilla, TST, Van Aaken. . . .

one warning though, if your truck was produced after 6/06 you cannot use the TST box. . .they are still working on a fix.

Simon. . .since you are wanting more towing/passing power there are alot out there for you too. . .if you want to go with the downloader, Smarty is probably the best, for boxes, I would probably go with an edge box.

if you look in my sig, the clutch on my NV5600 was able to keep up with that power. . .however she was slipping hard. . .anything above 100hp and the stockers gunna let go.

BTW, with my TST set to 0/0 I got 285hp and 560tq

since you have an 06, I beleive the clutch and DMF* you have can handle about the same. . .but I wouldnt venture above 75hp due to the DMF and it's track record with not being able to handle high HP.

*DMF, Dual Mass Flywheel, basicaly was installed more for creature comforts and to keep alot of the jerkyness of the engine to a minimum.

Is there a resource, website, publication where one could research how each of these performance manufactuers are making power and the pros versus cons of the different power making tecniques? Chip vs. Downloader, fuel vs. timing, stacking, safe thresholds. The manufacturer's websites seem end-user friendly, while I'm interested in the technical side of things.

Another advantage I like about my Edge Juice/ Attitude, is that it will read and erase any codes that may happen to pop up on you. Of course, there are other features it has and I am satisfied with the performance I find with it. I'm not into the hot roddin, just like to romp on it now and then.

Unfortunately, no...you will have to spend hours upon hours of research on line, or spend thousand upon thousands to find out for yourself...However if you have a particular one in mind, someone may be able to answer for you how it works.
