Oil Quality Study
Interesting read here. It changed my beliefs. http://www.turbodieselregister.com/TDR57_Oil.pdf
That is all well and good, but not one store I went to had any CI-4 or CI4+ oil last time I checked.
The link is appreciated, and it does show (I guess) how the newer oil is somewhat inferior to the older oil.
HOWEVER These guys should try livingin the present day and do a study on the currently available oils, instead of living in the past and talking about how things used to be. That is just my 2 cents...got change?

I remember reading that article in a recent TDR. His conclusions are certainly not helpful to a guy like me. With a 6.7L Cummins, I need to use a CJ-4 oil. He rated all of them "Ho Hum" because of their low TBNs. That's ridiculous, since some of us have to use CJ-4 oil. That's like comparing a bunch of TV dinners and saying that the low salt versions don't taste as good as the other ones! Oh, REALLY!
I remember reading on the TDR a couple of months ago that even Cummins/Valvoline Premium Blue is now CJ-4 compliant for the 6.7L engine. Other than Amsoil does any one still manufacture a real CI-4 grade oil (not a CJ-4 that is backwards compatible)?
Amsoil still makes their AME 15W-40 synthetic which is CI-4+. It has a 12 TBN, which helps give it a long life. I know Drew uses it in his Cummins. Actually, I think all of the Amsoil diesel motor oils are CI-4+ except for the new DEO 5W-40.

I am using the Amsoil 15w-40 heavy duty diesel oil. If they announce that they are gonna quit making it, I'm gonna buy a 55 gallon drum of it!!

I went to the dealer today and the Mopar brand oil they had on the display shelf was CI-4+. I don't know whether they still install that or it has just been sitting there that long, but that's what it was. I also asked the parts manager who manufactures the Mopar oil. He said it goes back and forth from Havoline to Mobil. FYI...
