Default just finished a 4,100 mile tri

Well I just got back from a 4,100 mile trip thru Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Montana, Wyoming, Idaho, Oregon, Washington, and California. Except for about 500 miles it was all while towing a 35 foot Montana 5th wheel. Total weight of truck (07 3500 mega cab 4x4 with 4.10s and 6 speed auto) and 5th wheel was right at 18,000 lbs.

I had the cruise control set at 1700 rpm or about 62 mph. Went over a bunch of 10,000 foot passes as though they weren't even there.

Overall mileage was 10.5 mpg. Truck now has 9,000 miles on it and has no modifictions yet.

I don't know what others are getting for mileage but I was happy with what I got. The truck is a delight to drive.

If you would have had an exhaust and performance enhancer, it would have been much more fun and your MPG would have probably been boosted at bit. Oh and a CAI

Arrgh!! CaptKid.... with only 9k miles on her its only gonna get better!!! When ya get up to 25-30k miles on her, you should see 12-15mpg with some mild mods, pulling that 5'er.

Glad to have you back safe and sound.

I just got back to Iowa from Colorado last week. Pulled the flat bed fifth wheel with a mini excavator from Breckenridge. Crossed the scale at home and total gross was 26,000#. Averaged 9.4 mpg holding 2000 RPM and 70mph. Going across Nebraska there was a 10-18 mph head wind too. Seams everytime I go across NE there is a head wind weather I'm going east or west! I have about 22,000 mileson the truck now so I am pretty happy with the mileage. Only slow pull was the 7 miles out of Dillon to the tunnel at the 7% grade. Held right at 45 going up. Going down some of those hills I wish I had the exaust break but I just keep the MPH down and don't let it climb. Going out empty, with the trailer, I held 75MPH (2100 RPM) and got about 12MPG. Seams the RPM is what kills the MPG. Thats the same as it was with my "99".
