I always try to turn my AC off before I turn the truck off. Mine would make the squeek once in a while when I first got it, butonce I installed my gauges anddont just pull up, and jump out(like I used to do with the Dakota), but rather let'er cool down properly to 300 degrees or less, I have not heard it do it in a long time. Probably just coincidental, I guess. Maybe I had left the AC on the few times I heard it happen.
A inline six diesel will only shut off in one of three places on the crank revolution. It is "searching" for lack of a better term for one of these three spots. Yes, it is due to compression. When the crank bounces back, the belt squeaks. The idler for the belt is made to be tight going forward, not backwards though it is only slight movement.
