heres the scoop. i have a 2004.5 5.9 cummins and I pull a camper during the summer often enough. During the winter our truck is like our main vehicle that goes to home, work and mall (all in same city). It doesnt really get out on the highway even in winter. I have nothing to pull in winter what can i do? find a steep upgrade and giver several times or what? Seems like it idles a little rough so id like to clear it up? Or do these trucks normally idle rough? kinda rough to when the defrost or ac is on. any1 notice this

 

I don't think it's necessarily pulling a heavy load that helps burn out the carbon, but the high(er) EGTs that come with pulling. You might try just flooring it on an interstate on-ramp and run it up to ~75 then back out and do that a couple times to get the EGTs up there a bit. The WOT should help clean the injectors and the heat should help clean them as well.

If it doesn't help, at least you had fun doing it

 

i use lucas alot to help keep my injectors clean..but thats about it!

 

winter fuel is also blended differently and has less cetane (basicaly mixing #1 with #2 to lower the cloud point)

best thing to do is atleast one of twice a tank do just what dave said. . .puyt the throttle to the floor, get those EGT's and boost pressures up and you'll bur the carbon off.

 

I'm printing this out and putting it in my glove box. Next time the wife starts [sm=bicker.gif]cause I'm wasting fuel, I'll pull it out and show her.

She's already figured out when I floor it andlook in the mirror on her side it's justto see how much smoke I left.

I do that on occasion. . .still waiting on the wife to ask if she needs to do the same with her highlander[8D]

 

Can't do that one she knows it's gone. When it was about a week old I took it in and got it cut off. Didn't tellabout it till after. Said "honey I had to take the truck to the muffler shop today. Something was wrongwith it.......It was too quiet!"

 

cleaning the exhaust out. . . .they are kinda like arteries and dont want a stroke
