Next summer I will be approaching 220,000 km mark on my 2004.5 diesel (5.9L) and was wondering how much bearings were because id roll them in. My oil pan seems to be sweating slightly and if i drop it to change the gasket I was thinking of rolling in bearings also if its cheap enough. Also does any1 know how much a injector is from dodge or cummins for our stock 5.9Litre 2004.5 cummins?

 

to be honest. .. unless the rod is knocking or you are having injector issues. . .leave them alone. 220K (140K miles) is not many miles on these trucks.

these engines are built with much beefier parts then gassers. . .500-900K is not uncommon.

 

I really hope I see 900k out of my truck. That would be sweet.

 

Bearings are cheap. I wanna say around $58 but thats for my truck (could also be my price at work, been awhile since I priced them) If I had to do a pan gasket, I could see myself rolling in mains and rods for the hell of it. Remeber, your engine has fairly tight tolerances. So keep everything super super clean.

 

I agree with drew... if they are not broke, dont mess with it. if there is any machining that needs to be done, you'll have a teardown on your hands.

 

The cheapest place to get them would definitely be Cummins and not your local Dodge dealer.

 

what do u mean by machining? what would need machining? If I take out one of my bearings and read if its stock, over or undersized, and replace them with same new ones im only BETTERING my engine not make it worse. If i dont do preventative maintenance then YES I will end up with a tear down.

 

Dude, the engine is just broken in. Its only maybe a 1/4 of its life so far, usually, correct me if im wrong, but isn't it really just oil leaks that end up justifying a rebuild at high miles? I don't think I have ever really heard of bearings going bad on these...
