Default Help for a Ferd buddy

A buddy of mine has a 99 Ferd 250 with the 7.3. While hanging out on my boat he gets a call from his wife saying she forget and put 5 gallons of unleaded in an almost empty fuel tank and drove the F250 until it died.

All joking aside, my buddy dropped the tank removed the 2-3 gallons of mixed diesel and unleaded. Not sure what mix of diesel to unleaded was fed to the motor. Any clues you guys can give about what he should check for to try and make sure no serious damage happend would be appreciated.

I honestly don't know what the proper procedure is for something like that. If it were me, I'd probably drain the tank and then fill it to the top and just run it and hope for the best. Not saying that's what you should do, it's just that I wouldn't know what else to do other than to also change the fuel filter.

I've seen it done in skid steers and other stuff where they would just mix in a quart of motor oil without even draining the fuel tank.

he's SOL, he better just sell it and buy a dodge

anyway, all joking aside he just needs to re-prime the fuel system to get all the gas out. . .change the fuel filter, purge the fuel lines and hopefully after a few cranks things should be back up and running.

I did the same thing thing last spring while jawing at the guy at the next pump, but realized it before I started it. Hauled to local garage, drained, saved the 30 gal. of half and half, and had enough lawn tractor fuel to keep the neighborhood in smoke all summer. Dumb move, but it turned out OK.
