OVerheating under load. (Fan Clutch) ??
I have a 98.5 Cummins 2500. This weekend I towed my camper about an hour away. The temp guage went to Red(240) for a few minutes after towing and then would return to around 210. It did this several times. The truck never gets hot under normal conditions, just when towing. I was told it could be the fan clutch but it seems tight too. Any other suggestions before I just start buying parts? I've changed the thermostat with a new 190 also. Just wondering if it could be some sort of sensor.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

I cleaned the radiator with a pressure washer and also flushed and changed radiator fluid when I replaced the thermostat. Any other suggestions?
Thanks

Do you have good coolant flow? Pull the rad cap when its hot and see. If it's flowing good, then your looking at a fan clutch. If the flow is weak then its gonna be a waterpump.
you might also need to look at having your radiator rodded. . .I cannot remember where I saw this but the 2nd gens had a bad rap with radiators clogging if the wrong fluid was used.

Who may do the radiator rodding, Also I used the Red "DEXCOOL" fluid when I replaced it. That's what was in it. What coolant do all of you use?
Thanks
Thanks
Drew, I just thought about something else. When I turn my heat on it blows pretty warm when it's on about the second blower level but if I turn it wide open it blows cooler, not coldair. Does this sound like a radiator problem too. The heat never really gets real hot like my other cars do. Also can you explain what rodding the radiator means.
