Take this formula:

Cost per gallon divided by average fuel economy = price per mile driven

Comparing my old 1997 Ram 1500 EC with the 5.9 gasser it was:

2.91 (current price) divided by 12mpg = 24 cents per mile


My 5.9 CTD:
3.39 (current price) divided by 18mpg = 18 cents per mile

It still makes me more money back. I love it when my gas friends try to tell meI am dumb for driving diesel with the prices right now, then I show them the wonder of MATH!
