very carefully !! There a flat spot on the manifold between #3 and #4 cylinder. Put some gear grease on the spot you plan to drill on and cover the drill bit in grease. You'll need to clean it off as you go and regrease. Once the hole is drilled, put a magnet in the hole and remove as much as you can. There shouldn't be too much in there.

Repeat this process when you tap the hole and you shouldn;t have any problems.

that's always an option but, more work than necessary. You'll get most of the shavings using grease. I would take a pretty big piece of metal to trash your exhaust turbine. I was told when Banks techs do this type of install they just drill it out while the engine is running and never have a problem.

Just take your time, collect as many shavings as you can, stay straight when drilling and tapping and you'll be ok. Or, if you really want to take off the manifold... you're sure to not have a problem.

I set the shop vac nozzle right next to the bit drilling and tapping. less mess! then stick a magnet in the hole to get any that actually got down there. very little if any seems to get in the manifold this way

when i drilled mine i put a magnet next to the drill and removed alot of it,
after i took a foldable stick whit a mag on it to remove all that may have fallen inside, removed alot since i drilled right in the middle of the manifold where the left and right bank meet, there is a divider there, dont drill there or ull have to remove it like i did to remove the rest of the divider(not much but a pain in the harse)
and lots of shaving ull create...

Tho only 100% sure way of doing it without damage would be to remove the manifold. When I do mine it will be a post turbo setup in the elbo after the turbo.

If your doing it for hot rodding purposes, it is better in the manifold, but I am doing it for turbo temps and cool down, so I am going after the turbo. Go ahead guys flame away.

I strongly disagree with putting grease on the bit. The idea of that is to get the shavings to stick to the bit which to me is flawed. Drill bits are designed to draw chips up and out. If you use grease theres a good chance a grease laden chip will end up inside and make it difficult to vacuum out. Start with a smal drill and work your way up one size at a time. That will produce very small sized chips making problems much less likely.
