What is the residency requirement? I know we have Mexican nationals buying vehicles all the time here, some stay here in Texas, some get exported to Mexico.

Is the problem just he would have to be present to take possession or something?

 

I can't actually tell you the details, I don't know them.. But I would guess he has rep in the States..who buy then exports. He has told me that the vehicle is tax free...

 

Tax free shopping,yes. I know my friends from Mexico come here to San Antonio for the holidays spend tons of money for Christmas and submit the receipts toget the taxes re-imbursed tothemwhen they take their merchandise back home.For normal merchandise it's 8.25% for a car our tax is 5.25%.

Anyway, let's find you a truck first and let your exporter worry about the logistics of getting it out of the US.

You should only have to pay tax to the statethat you register the vehicle in. I'm not sure how that works with other countries.

 

I think Virginia is a Personal Property Tax state. Meaning that you pay property taxes each year to register the vehicle.Unlike Texas you paythe tax when you buy the vehicle.

So, BKS is probably right, they should not make you pay it.There is likely an administrative task that needs to bedone to get it waived or whatever. Unless they are money hungry greedy tax collectors.

 

The contact with my local dealer (Lampe Dodge) did not work out? If you think it would help I could go talk to them, as they are a relatively small town dealer, maybe they will listen to reason when there is money involved.

Too bad you couldn't find a truck in Oregon as that state has no sales tax.
