Default Undiagnosable problem

I drive a 99 3500 ram at work. We have taken it toa fewshops a few times and no one has fixed the problem yet. We have a code reader and it didnt throw out any codes, the shop said it threw one but it still isnt fixed.

In the mornings it doesnt want to crank. You have to floor the accelerator and turn the key in 10 second intervels. Sometimes it takes up to 3 trys. Its prone to run out of gas under a quarter tank. It crapped out on me thrusday with a little more then an eigth tank. It was rediculous trying to get it running again, after a while of trying, we finally got it to crank by misting starter fluid in the hose between the turbo and the air filter. Whats up?

first off, NO STARTER FLUID IN A DIESEL!!!!!!![:@]

use wd-40

sounds like a pump or clogged fuel filter.

My 99 2500 was doing the same thing. It ended up being the vp44 it was losing fuel pressure in the injection pump itself. Does it start fine for awhile after u get it started.

In the middle to late 90s, some diesels have a rubber fuel return line. It runs between engine and firewall on drivers side. These lines lose prime and its hard to crank the truck. May not apply to your truck but its easy enough to look and see if those lines are there. Can't remember what all years are prone to this.......

Its the sending unit in your tank. My work truck is the same way when it says i have a quater of a tank the tank is almost empty. This is the second truck that it has happened to me in.

Just because it's a newer part does'nt mean it can't be broken.....

Check your fuel pressure at the VP44 and make sure your filter is not clogged. You could also have a clogged fuel line, or sending unit. I also would suggest not running the truck any more if the fuel pressure is low. If you do, you could ruin the injector pump and then you are looking at $2000 to fix it.
