HELP!!! Truck wont start
So im coming home from deer hunting last night doing 70 mph and the truck dies out of know where. I get it to the shoulder and shut the key off, wait a few seconds, turn the key, wait to start light goes off and cranked it over. The truck started but died immediately. Tried it again, and it started, drove off running great for another few miles and it dies again. Get started and get almost to my house and it dies again, now it wont start at all, it cranks over just fine. I was thinking clogged fuel filter so changed it and nothing. The truck never threw any codes at all and now im stumped. Its an 2003 H.O. It is on warranty so that is a good thing. Help please. any ideas. thanks
Ok, call me a dummy. This is my first diesle ever and had it for 5 months now.
What is the "Start Light" ? Is there a procedure for starting the Cummins? mine is a 2007 5.9L and I know nothing of waiting for a light to go off before starting. Is this a "cold weather thing"?
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Yeah, sounds just like alift pump issue. You can check the fuel pressure and see if you are getting enough to run the truck. If, not I'd start at the lift pump. I'd quit trying to run the truck until you fix it. If it is a lift pump, you can do some damage to injector pump if not carefull. You are lucky, you have a 2003 which does not have a VP44 in it.
Thanks for the help, my next question is, the lift pump is not under warranty and im not gonna pay 650 dollars for them to replace it. So, am I hurting the truck by putting on a FASS fuel pump with my only mods is exhaust.

Mine did the same thing over the weekend. I took it in and the service dept said it was the transfer pump. Mine did the exact same thing. It would run then die, then go a few miles and die. If you still have some of the 100k mile warranty left it will cover it.
guys, need help bad. i got thetruck to start but cant make it around the block without it wanting to die. im stuck and the dealer is quite aways away. i really dont wanna pay a tow bill but may have too. drew, any techs? help, please.
it's your lift pump. . .if you go to the dealer they are just going to replace it with the intank model which is the exact same pump, just in the tank.
your best bet is to get a fass or walbro pump.
