07' 2500 MegaCab CTD - 68RFE Tranny?
2007.5 is first year for th 68RFE, so it is not proven. However, having had both the 48RFE and now the 68RFE, I prefer the smooth shifting 6 speed and the lower cruising RPMs (which makes up for some of the crappy mileage of the 6.7L).
Believe me that the 68rfe has been beaten to death the building and test plant in Kokomo,IN. My uncle is one of the people in charge of putting the beating on it. You would not believe what it goes through in testing. It is way better than the 48. He said they found some little things go wrong at first when really putting the power to it that the 6.7can have. (of course, not stock the 6.7 on the steelership lots) One day he called just to say that they melted a tranny down. I asked him what happend. He said they got high centered on one of the rock crawl trails they took it on and blew a line. Then ran it to see how long it would last with the line off and what would burnup. Hopefully for the production runs, this thing does as good as he says it will.
I just got a Turbo Diesel Register in the mail yesterday, and it has an article describing the testing of this trans. It's just as Performanceag states in his post: the 68RFE was designed from the ground-up to work with the 6.7L Cummins and they tested the crap out of it. Apparently it's the first Dodge transmission that's comparable to the Allison transmission that the Chevy/GMC guys brag about.

I would love to see a swap someday to get me that 68rfe in my 5.9 ctd... Probably just a component and computer swapI am sure but imagine the mileage one could get if he tuned the truck and tranny to work in harmony?
