I was told by the "super mechanics" that it had a 5.9... no biggy.

That is kinda funny you were there Super Dave. That was me that pulled them out!!! The PTO winch was busted, so I just did a straight pull using the winch line.

I can understand the confusion between the two engines at first glance. . .however the ISB w/p7100 injector pump has never been water after cooled, however the 8.3L has been. plus it uses a HX50 turbo. . .the 5.9L unless it's pushing some power could only dream of useing that turbo in a twins setup.

one question though. . .it sounded like you it in Low transfer and reverse when you did that??? if you did you'r lucky you didnt grenade the transfer.

oh, and about that front mounted PTO winch. . .it's a POS. the one on my old 5-ton wrecker was also busted and didnt work[:@]

Now I have a M985A3 hemmit wrecker. . .another POS

Nope i dont think a duce&1/2 ,Its a5ton with 400 cummins not 5.9. and a duce had a LDS 465multi fuel engine made by continentalor gas made by REO.
The military doesn't seem to use duece-and-a-halfs any longer. When I was "over there" last year all I saw were 5 tons, HMMWVs, and HEMTTs. The 5-ton trucks all had armored cabs and turrets for crew-served weapons. Does anyone know if they still use 2-1/2 tons trucks?

there are hundreds of them here in Georgia still operating in the National Guard. however the Active Duty components have long since removed the dueces from the system and replaced with the FMTV's. (Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles)

At least the guys have a little fun over there :-)

here's another Cummins in action. It belongs to a guy on another forum.

Can't do that w/ an off the shelf lifts out there. I found this impressive a 8,000lb truck catching 6-8ft of air and able to drive it home w/o problems.
