maybe, but the cost of building new refineries would be offset with higher fue prices so the companies don't have to pay for it themselves

Heh, not in Texas if TEXDOT has their way. TEXDOT is looking at imposing a "driving tax" where you get charged a tax based on the number of miles you drive...in ADDITION to the fuel taxes already at the pump.

They are claiming the demand for gas is going down and they aren't making money, so they want another tax.

This is at complete odds with the claim demand is high so prices are high...question is, which is it?

that is just texas trying to become a state in the Republik of Kalifornia

California blows, I hope the next earthquake drop it off in the ocean. No offense to members here from there. My beef is with the general populace...

HEY NOW!!!!

Born and raised here in Southern California and 10 years if you would have asked me I would have said I'd stay here my whole life but now as soon as my daughter is off to college in ohhh 7 years the wife and I are outtie here.

and I don't give a rip about political correctness. It's the liberal/socialist attitude that has ruined this wonderful state where English plays second fiddle and taxes are OUT OF THIS WORLD ;o)
