I don't know that it's been done or can be done. Many would like to have the new 68RE but, for the cost to make the swap... it's likely not worth it.
Plus, it may not be able to be done... well without spending a fortune anyway. The tranny is controlled by the ECM so, you may also have to change the ECM for it to work.
The gears are an easy swap. $450 around for the 4:10 gearing and what ever labor to install it if you don't do it yourself.

I figured cost would be the distractor.
I don't tow anything and only got the 4.10's because that's what happened to be on the truck I wanted on the lot. I'm getting very good gas mileage but sometimes the high rpm's while cruising on the freeway gets annoying especially for the wife so I thought maybe switching out the 4.10's to go higher might be benefical since I don't tow.
Would you do it?

well you surely don't want to go higher on the gearing. 3:73 are what many of our trucks come with. IMO, it's a sweet ratio for high driving.
Your milage will likely be even better with those coming from 4:10 too. If I were you, I'd try going to the 3:73. That would make the wife very happy :-)

I meant going higher than low haha.
I'm really thinking about switching to the 3.73 for a better cruising speed on the freeway since that's all I really do and never tow a damn thing though I could if I needed to.
I'm thinking about going with 33's in which case I should hang onto the 4.10's eh???
I'm a little nervous making a change cause I don't want to screw anything else up!!!
Appreciate all the thoughts guys.

I run 37's and have 3:73 gearing and it works great on the highway. I plan to change to 4:10's only because of the way my truck is built. It will help me at the track and help my larger turbo spool better. If like you say, you do mostly highway driving... I think you'd be really happy with 3:73's. 33's are real far from what the stock tires are. It's really all preference
