Default Parts/Service Transmission Help

Guys, if you have G56 trans and are seeing a little leakage from it check this out. Mine started leaking right after the 3 /36 warranty was up. While getting some work done at the dealer the tech noticed the leak, and had the trans expert give a diagnosis. Since the leak was coming from the top of the trans he said it was the shift tower seal. I agreed and left it at that cause it wasn't leaking bad. I stopped by the parts department at my dealer and tried to find this seal and it doesn't exist so we figured it is just RTV sealed. Today I pulled the interior apart and found the problem, it is not the shift tower seal, it is the shifter boot. It is made from very thin rubber and it had a tear in it. I called for parts and found out this part is on national back order! Tried another dealer just to keep the first one honest and got the same info. Well red neck engineering will have to suffice, I got some balck RTV and "mended" the tear. I am waiting for it to cure while I write this. Oh and for Mayfair and crew I have attached some pics of the culpret. Sorry about the crappy quality pics.

Parts / Service, any way you can get your hands on one?

Dang, these ARE on inter-galatic backorder. I might have one of these on a used trans. I know I have a shift tower somewhere at the shop. I will look tomorrow. I will look and see if one off an NV5600 is the same or close to the same. I know that they have different part numbers, but they might interchange. Will find out tomorrow....

Interesting... I definately have a seepage from that area... more than I'd like to see in 15k miles, maybe a bigger leak is on the way?

I dont think the G56 and NV5600 have interchangeable parts.

How is that boot held onto the shift tower?
From the pics it looks like a CV boot could be made to work in a pinch.

My thoughts exactly. Does not look like it would be too hard to find some other type of boot that is close to this one. If you did find a good replacement, you could make some bucks selling them because these things are on backorder and so hard to find.

How about a shifter boot off an Eaton or a Spicer trans? Any truck shop should carry them. Might give that a try.

It leaks transmission fluid (ATF+4). I don't know how it is held on the bottom, I think it may have a threaded insert molded in toit, but around the shifter it is fit into a groove. Maybe Parts / Service can get me some dimensions and I can then find a suitable replacement.
