I wish people would tatoo

"I have dumped Acetone in my fuel"

or simply

"Acetone"

on their forehead
so that we could quickly know who we are dealing with.

sorry I asked guys, just my .02. What got me hooked I had to fly to Seattle for funeral borrowed friends 4banger, 99% freeway drove over 2K miles in Wa.&Ore. hand calc. tank #1 str gas .26.7mpg, #2 27.1mpg. #3 decided to throw in acetone got 34.1mpg which is just over 25% increase in cummins only get honest 15%. and yes Drew I won't argue that acetone won't cause less lube in fuel, butat .2 of 1% no problem less than a drop in the bucket you guys should check out Louis LaPoints web site lubedev.com quite a guy.

If you do a Google search for "acetone in fuel" (or similar) there are a lot of interesting opinions on this issue. I came across some websites that have claims about scientifically testing acetone in gas engines that show it lowers fuel consumption. Others indicate it's bogus. It seems that if it was a good idea the oil companies would be blending it in their fuels already. I would never add acetone to my fuel tank!

That's a very corrosive additive. It will eat away any any and all rubber gaskets. The fuel system needs lubrication and not to be stripped clean by acetone ! 2 stroke oil yes.... paint stripper/finger nail polish remover... no !

Not to mention that if you have any warranty issues and the dealer does a fuel analysis and the corrosive additive shows up. You could have problems getting it fixed under warranty. Fuel contamination is not considered a defect of the fuel system. Please don't shoot the messenger here. Just wanting to share info.......
