Fluid/EGT/Fuel/Boost Ranges
hey guys I'm hoping that some of you could tell me the specific temperature ranges for the various fluids in our truck. So that I can purchase the correct gauges temperature range scale and increments.
1) Transmission normal temperature no load and Maximum temperature before damage occurs,
a) pre-cooler in transmission line to cooler
b) post-cooler in transmission pan
2) Differential Temperature, normal temperture no load and Maximum Temperature before damage occurs
3) Water/Coolant Temperature, normal temperature no load and Maximum Temperature before damage occurs
Also Exhaust Gas Temperatures normal Temperature no load and Maximum Temperature before damage occurs
a) pre-turbo
b) post-turbo
4) Boost Pressure normal and maximum on stock truck
5) Fuel Pressure normal and minimum

2. not sure about a temp but, diff gauges really aren't that necessary
3. anything over the line in the middle of the gauge, it's getting hot.
also. You don't want to see more than 1350F for any period of time. Short bursts are ok.
4. I believe 22 to 23psi max is all you'll see on a stock turbo. With a boost fooler and/or smarty it can get up to 40psi. Running boosts will vary
5. 22psi is a good pressure on a stock CP3. You'll never see that though with the stock pump. I believe max is 8psi for the stock and you don't want to see 0psi
Ty got it right but on #3, 200 or lower is where you want. . .you can go to 210 if pulling hard however anything over 245 is asking for trouble.
#4. stock boost numbers can get upwards of 35#, max boost on the stock turbo is around 45psi before damage occurs.

ok Drew...I forgot I was suppose to be thinking stock. Anyway, that line on the gauge is around the temp you mentioned. I also understand that a EGT gauge isn't as important as the water temp gauge. Water temp will really tell you what going on in the motor.
The stock turbo is good for around 40psi but IIRC, on a stock truck it won't go over 23psi. That's about where my truck will throw a overboost code if i don't use a fooler. I wouldn't think you'd need more than a 30psi gauges if staying completely stock.

hum. . .I was pushing 35# before my TST. . .I'm wondering ifthere may be an auto/manual difference even with the 3rd gens like the 2nd gens useing different turbo's depending on application.
Thank you Drew/Triton for the input I have seen guys buy gauges that dont have the range that they need, just wanted to get it right the first time. Triton I cant afford the Smarty right now but I am definately going to get one as soon as I can.
