Default Cold weather warm-up/idle time?

That time of the year again, and while I'm sure this has been covered ad nauseum before, a forum search didn't pull up much.

What do y'all recommend for cold weather warm-up procedures? Typically I go out and crank the engine about 10 minutes before I need to leave (assuming it's <35F or so) and just let it idle to get oil moving and let the block warm. But I found this site which advises against that (scroll down to the latter part of "cold weather hints"). I'm not worried about plugging the cat since it ran off a long time ago, but I am worried about fouling injectors and other nasty stuff from extended no-load idle.

What works for you? And does anyone know of a fast/high idle kit for the pre-ISB second gens?

The only thing i've seen for the 12v isb's was someone rigged up a cable to the throttle pedal (like a choke cable). I usually have my block heater on a timer for to come on about 2 1/2 hours before I get up. I then fire my truck up and let it idle while I eat breakfast. By the time I'm done eating the windows are defrosted

Does this not let it idle recomendation apply the the common rail with the high idle? Also the last couple of mornings when I have started mine it has ran straight to 1000 rpm as soon as it fires also it won't idle down until it is put in gear, the brake pedal won't bring it down is this normal?

a good 1-2 min idle to get the oil warmed up is usualy what I do when below 35F. then dont hammer the throttle till I see the temp gage around 150F

1-2 minutes of idle, then 1-2 minutes of high idle (1100) then easy on the skinny pedal until I am up to operating temps.

Mine will go straight to 1000 RPM's after cranking if it's cold enough. But I'm pretty sure it idles back down when I step on the brake pedal.

Kick it up to about 1000rpms[8D]. Shes never gonna warm up if it that cold.

i think it was around 20 degrees (F) tonight when i stoped over a buddys house and my truck was close to normal operating temp.... i let it idle for about 10-15 minutes to keep it warm so i dident freeze when i got back in it and the water temp gauge was already back at the bottom.... its crazy how these engines run so cool[:-]

Stupid ? but you can leave you block heater pluged in after you start it and let it warm up abit right...this don't apply to me really cause of where I'm at, just wonderin...
