Default Got this warning from my dealership today

I got this warning in the mail today from my dealership. Has anyone else heard of this or experienced this?

"<my dealership name> Dodge diesel customers have been experiencing a number of catastrophic engine failures when using non Mopar oil filters, although we cannot identify which brand or brands are failing, the filters in question are coming apart internally and clogging oil passages in the block. The average cost of repair for a failed Cummins diesel engine is $12,000 to $14,000. We recommend that even if you don't have your vehicle serviced at an authorized dealership, that you use a Mopar oil filter.

We cannot restrict your warranty due to the use of an aftermarket oil filter but we recommend against it."

just another thing to be able to void your warranty and not pay. Damn corporate lawyers !

This is really the recommend filter to use by Cummins anyway. I doubt D/C could say a thing about using a filter made by Cummins...Fleetguard

from what i understand, the Mopar filter is a Fleetguard, it just doesn't have the same micron rating as the Fleetguard. The
Stratapore filter is suppose to be the best there is and better than the Mopar.

If there are filters self destructing it is probably the fram filters. I personally use napa gold (rebranded wix) with rotella -t and have no problems to date.

that message is directed right at the fram filters. . .the internals cannot withstand the 60+ psi the oil pump generates and will literaly grenade itself internaly.

Sounds more people have been using Fram filters again and Dodge wanted to remind people to only use good oil filters. BTW I know Dodge will not say a word about using Fleetguard as my Dodge dealer told me that I should use Mopar filters when I first got the truck. I told them I only use Fleetguard filters and they said Oh they make good filters and shut up. IIRC Dodge put out TSB and a list of approved filters for use on the CTD back in 2001 and the last I looked at it they had not made any changes to it.

Amsoil all the way for me! If their products cause any damage, their warranty will cover the repairs.

Basically, whatever you drive, you shouldn't use a fram filter..

My dealer had a Ram CTD in with a scrapped engine. Had only 8000 miles on it. Filter plugged. The guy said he had the oil changed at some quick type lube place.
