Default My first oil analysis

Here is the report from Blackstone after my first oil analysis: http://h1.ripway.com/hildenja/OilAnalysisNov07.pdf

Sabersix, how does this compare to the oil analysis you did recently on your 6.7L?

Why did you have an oil analysis done? I guess you might be glad you did, since your oil is 9% fuel...

But is that something you can take to the dealer and say fix it?

Regular oil analysis tells you alot abou your motor. Like you said, tells you about fuel content and engine wear.... Many comapnies can provide this information for you including Amsoil and Blackstone.

I got the analysis to see how my oil was holding up over time. The most telling item is the Total Base Number (TBN), which is the oil's ability to neutralize acids. A TBN higher than 1.0 means your oil is still able to neutralize acids.

I will analyze my oil at my next change. If the fuel content is still high I will bring the results to the dealer to see what they think.

If you go to the Blackstone website you can order a free collection kit. It's a small plastic bottle that goes inside a larger plastic mailing container. Mail it in with your payment: $22.50 for a standard test and an extra $10.00 to get the TBN test. The results come by e-mail the day after they receive the sample.

Here is Blackstone's page on analyzing diesel oil.

As much as I hate to say this, Ignorance is BLISS !!

I'm perfectly happy thinking that I am currrently driving a happy and healthy Ram. The LAST thing I need is an oil annalysis telling me that I have copper in my oil and that my bearings MAY be wearing out or something like that.

I don't wanna know ...
