Not a fan of the smoke......
Your easy driving might be causing some buildup in the engine. The first time you hit it hard and it smokes alot, let off and try it again. If it is less smoke, its normal. If its the same, get it checked out. Also check for oily residue near the exhaust area and check your air filter. Hopefully its just new owner jitters.
the main reason i bought into a diesel, is because it can blow smoke, now with the edge and smarty, i cant even see behind me! i love it! but, if u dont want smokes, HEMIs dont blow it, unless its really really cold and they get that nice white looking smoke for about 3 minutes!
Mine will do the same. If I baby it for a bit and then romp on it, I will blow one big cloud, but I can't reproduce it again unitl I baby it for a while.... Just buildup in the motor I am sure.
I also think it is just because it is new. with only 7K on it, the air filter should be ok. Put a serious trailer behind it, load it heavy, and pull the snot out of it....that should seat the rings properly. then you should be ok. & if not...hell, its under warranty
I'm seeing two answers here, some say it's normal others say something is wrong with it. In my limited experience with on road diesels, I would think minor smoking is normal, especially under heavy throttle. I have a completely stock, except for the tires, 06 5.9 and when I punch it, it puts out a pretty good black plume. It's even more noticable at night when you have headlights shining near the exhaust. It appears to be smoking all the time.
I normally baby it all the time trying to achievethis awesomeMPG (which you guys & gals told me I would get with this diesel....hasn't happened yet with 18K, but I'm still waiting[sm=sleeping.gif]), but still get around 14 empty and maybe 10 towing.
So if it is not suppose to smoke, maybe this explains my shi$$y gas mileage???

I'm blowing thick clouds everywhere I go and still get high 17's low 18's. . . if I kill the smoke I can get upwards of 19. . .but wheres the fun in that[sm=badbadbad.gif]
