You know what Mayfair....it lights my fire every time I see someone disrespect the US or Ol'Glory...BUT then I step back and remember that it is because of what so many men and women have done that they get to do that...and it is actually the greatest COMPLIMENT to this country that they do it.

In a lot of places if someone had done what this guy did he'd be what tossed in jail...shot...killed...what ever. But here we look at it and get mad...then we get proud. There is nothing better to be said about this country. We not only live w/ people who disagree w/ us we love em for it.

He has his reasons for thinking this country is headed down hill and thankfully he lives in a country where he can express that.

So by respecting this guys ability to display his flag the way he wanted you actually did respect our country. You PROVED exactly why this country is so strong. Our people are great! You handled 100% correctly.

Freedom of speech and freedom to be an *******? Bul**** I say. In my opinion, things like flag burning, disrespect to the flag and my country, talking smack about my country, ect, ect............It all should be against the law.
Not to say you did anything wrong and this is only how I would have reacted. But I would have walked to the back of his car, took down the flag, nicely and neatly fold it up as best as I remember how, then walk back to my truck.
He doesn't deserve to have that flag if he is going to use it to protest the very same actions that he is doing be displaying it upside down in the first place.

There was a story on the news not too long ago about a mexican owned store in Texas close to the border. They were flying the mexican flag ABOVE the American flag. There was a news crew covering a story about it and just so happened a man pulled up, walked down the sidewalk and up to the flag plole in front of the store and right in front of the two mexican store owners standing outside.
He pulled out a Bowie Knife and cut the rope, pulled down the flags, cut the American flag off, folded it like it should be, then turned to the camera with an angree tear in his eye.
He told them that he was a Vietnam veteran and no way in hell would he sit there and see all the men and women that have died for our freedom to be disrespected this way.
The mexicans turned a walked back in the store without saying a word.

I almost cried when I saw it. We as a country seem to all but forgotten what America stands for. Yes it stands for freedom but it stands for AMERICAN FREEDOM !!! Not the freedom of ******** from all over the world to come here to escape the terrible countries they came from to seek freedom and trash MY AMERICA!! You can come and be free but YOU CAN NOT make America into a kinder version of your country. You must live by the rules our for fathers made.

I am ready to fight back and every chance I get I do. I wish American would get as pissed off as I do when they hear this kind of ****. Maybe we can start changing things !!

Oh and one more story before I get off my rant.
I was watching the game show hosted by Drew Carry a few months ago, I can't remember the name of it. But basicly they do a poll of all kinds of people in America. They ask them questions and the contestant has to guess what % of Americans answered.
Well the question came up and I quote "What % of Americans thing that America will no longer be a Country in 100 years"
Guess what the answer was??................go on guess!.....................The answer was 38% of Americans think that America will no longer excist in 100 years???? WTF!!!
You mean to tell me that over 1/3 of the country either doesn't giva a ****, is stupid, or just plain hate America and we let them live here?

Damn I need to cool off, Sorry for the rant guys but that pisses me off big time!!

I know that people have the freedom to do that, but if you dislike the country so much leave, you are completely free to do that. Go to some other country, see how you like it there, if so stay there, if not come back and try todo something useful and productive.

 

Driving around in a car with an upside down flag because you think our country is in "distress" is not a proper use of the United States flag. Flying the flag upside down is only to be used in time of dire distress when there is no other effective means to communicate. Think of a boat that is taking on water, or a fort that is under attack, or a school that is held hostage by terrorists. Continually flying the flag upside down is like having your fire alarm go off all day long, or broadcasting SOS from a radio when you're not in danger. It's basically crying wolf and desensitizing people to seeing an upside down flag, so that if someone is really in distress and hangs a flag upside down nobody is likely to respond as if it's an emergency.

For everyone out there, please respond if you see someone displaying a US flag improperly. Mayfair, you responded properly by pointing out to this clown that his flag was improperly displayed. You also could have removed the flag from his car and given it to someone who would display it correctly, or you could give it to the American Legion if it's in bad shape and needs to be respectfully burned. No cop would ever bust you for taking a flag off of some knucklehead's car who was flying it upside down.

 

I would have takin it off his car and put it on my truck the right way and told him to get an Afgan or Iraq flag to fly on his car...If he thinks America is no good thats his right, its also his right to get the hell outta my America

 

I don't think these people dislike the USA, they dislike the policies of our current President. There is a big difference. The President / Commander in Chief is replaceable.

 

I honestly don't think he meant disrespect to the flag, the soldiers or people of the USA. I can see it as being pointed towards the government which, in my opinion, is being very poorly- maybe even so bad as to say crappily- run. Heck, I can't wait until we havea different president.

Mayfair, as for doing what you did, it's all you could do. Anything else would have just gotten you into trouble or even hurt. Like someone said before- there are some crazy f'ers out there and you standing next to his car definately gave him the advantage.

 

Man I love you guys !! I live in canada and we just do not have the patridge you have !! We would not have a clue what it means to fly the flag upside down . Hell half of the canadians dont even know the national anthem !!( no offence to those that do ) Good for you to take the time out of your day to inform that guy that the had it upside down !! you have no control of what other people do but you did the right thing and you should be proud to live in such a great country !! I do at time wish I could call myself american just because you all love your country soooooo much !! Im sure the guy has no idea of what the flag stands for anyway, so go to bed tonight knowing you love your country and say a prayer for all the men and women that are over seas right now fighting for what people like you believe in !!!

I did think about taking the flag off of the back of his car after I got to my truck, but by then the light turned green. Like I said, I was behind the guy for about 2 more miles and TONS of things were running through my head. I even thought about the bat to his window,but all I could think of was the consiquences of my actions. I wasn't in the least bit afraid of the guy, but I figured if the guy was a tool like that, he'd also be the kind of tool who would call the cops for help and probably sue me.
