I asked a question for a friend who has a Ford diesel last night, had 9 people look at it and no answers at all.

He was out chasing gators when he called and said it was running sluggish and blowing smoke till the turbo kicked in, I told him to change his air and fuel filters or take it to be done as he couldn't do it anyway or wouldn't

 

yea i noticed a lot of other forums are dead... i would try a diesel forum not a specific ford forum...

 

Wouldn't you be embarrassed to log into a Ford forum?

You didn't indicate what color the smoke was, do we have a new pope or not?
And not being a ford owner, you probably didn't seek out a good forum. The Ford/Diesel forums I belong to have many faqs and stickieson smoke, so you probably did not even need to post, just search and read.

 

what year ford. . .if it is a 6.oh-no his EGR may have gone out, or the VGT is stuck open.

 

I was trying to find out what it is , he said it was an o4 and o4's had the 6.0 no in it.

They said the smoke was real black and turned white as the turbo came in and then cleaned up

 

the VGT mechanism has stuck open. . .he's gunna need a new turbo.

it is best it stuck like that. . .if it was stuck closed he would have blown the turbo apart from over spinning it.

 

That would make sense, that would make the turbo spool up slow and it wouldn't have the power and be rich till the turbo spun up

I have logins on at least 2 ford diesel forums & 2 chevy diesel forums. the response to my questions at the time was ok. I suspect the 9 who looked at it probably have no clue on how to help.
