Default Amsoil back in the 5.9

well for anyone wondering if the amsoil will improve mileage... I'm about to find out. Monday will be the start of that mileage test. if your new to the forum, check out the thread linked right above my signature pic for all the details.

and for those who missed it... the stock airbox lost mileage IN MY SETUP... approx .75 mpg I do think however if I were doing more city driving the stock box would be better for mileage. it did seem to giddy up & go better from a stop indicating more low end power (IMO)

remember I found when I changed all the fluids over to amsoil (engine, trans, axels) I gained nearly a full mpg.

would be nice to see if you have the same gaines I did.

the axles already have redline in them... when I did the swap I did see a gain but cant really say how much it was. now with the long commute and 3 tanks worth of data on the tst, I'll be able to tell for sure. it would be awesome if I could get another 1 mpg... 19 would be awesome. Also, should mention that I stopped putting the additives in during the testing. couldnt reliably keep the right mix so I just stopped putting it in. At some point I'll go back to putting some back in and we'll see what that does to mileage now that I've clicked over 80 miles.

btw... 62k miles on the pro comp xtreme at's and counting.

I doubt you will see much if anything with just the engine oil. when I changed the axel fluidI could tell it was just about to burn up life #9 of 9. and it is getting time for me to change the fluids once again.

I'd expect if anything it would be minimal... but when I made the switch and took it for a spin, I can definately feel the differnece in the motor.

I'm skeptical of mpg gains just changing engine oil but we'll see. I'm running amsoil in everything trans, diffs, TCand auxoverdrive.Even amsoil series 2000 grease on the wheel bearings, u-joints/ball jointsand looking to switch over to their marine 15w40 in the engine here real soon. Currently been dumping Delo 400 in there. I went from 15 mpg stock to 18.5 with lockout hubs and OD nothing else I've tried, additives (went back to straight #2)etc,seems to help either. Did you ever get one of those fuel atomizer thingermajiggers and see how it does?

nope, I found a forum in Austrailia that had a discussion on it and from what I could tell in the 15 pages of writeups... it didnt help. one guy did a dyno run on a motorcycle and saw no difference. some guys in the 2nd gen ram forum are looking into doing it but no one has pulled the trigger yet. I suppose I'd be the best tester for the diesels since i'm doing 170 miles/day.

Drew, I have a 2000 Chrysler 300M. I've been running Amsoil engine oil for years, but several months ago I changed the transmission fluid, differential lube, and power steering fluid over to Amsoil synthetic. I also flushed the cooling system and used Amsoil propylene glycol antifreeze. It cost about $90 for all the Amsoil stuff. My fuel economy improved by a little more than 1 MPG, which is great. The best thing, though, is that the transmission shifts better and the PS pump doesn't make that groaning noise anymore.
