2wd to 4wd help
depends on what front end you want to put in it. I would do a Dana 60 to start with and then figure out what you will need to adapt the front end to your truck. I think that if your setup has coils, you might be able to use all of that exisiting hardware. You will have to figure out what transfer case you want, and what will work with your tranny. You might have to change out the bell housing to something different to accept the transfer case. You could start with an old FORD and use all of it with an adapter for the transfer case. I restored a FORD E250 van a few years back that had the 4X4 in it and there was all sorts or crazy **** under there...Anything is possible with ingenuity and patience!
Thanks for the info, I could get a different truck but this one is in A-1 shape and it has all the good options. Any idea if the frames are the same, minus the front subframe for the coils. It looks like it just bolts on?
As far as I know the frame is the same. You might have to cut out the transfer case mount from the donor. Finding a donor truck might be the problem. I don't see too many 4X4 trucks for nuthin'!
If you try and keep the new setup "old school", you can keep everything manual. That is without auto 4X4, and all the electric junk that our new trucks come with. A manual transfer case and lockout hubs are best in my book; and not just because that is my setup!
