Yeah I guess it does work out right.

The difference in final drive ratio between 3.73's and 4.10's is 9%, but the difference in towing capacity is actually only 8.7%.

So yeah, in this case the change pays off.

Just so this doesn't confuse anybody, I think the biggest thing here is strain on the auto tranny and not necessarily what the whole truck is capable of. Just my thought there.

drw, quadcab, 3500. 5.9, 48re, longbed, 4x4,posi,i had the list on my 'puter, it was an r.v. forum and the tech page gave all the ratings, my computer took a **** and i lost all the stored info, i'm trying to find it as we type.

i just found it, i think you should be able to find the differing pulling weights by scrolling down to dodge.

Just want to say thank you for this link. it really helped me determine the truck I need to get. I am ssearching for a 2001 Dodge Ram CTD with a nautomatic to pull my 9000 lb fifth wheel. Your link helped me see that while the truck built with the 3,55 gears (pull weight 9450) will pull my trailer, the truck with the 4.10 gears (pull weight 11,450) is what I really want. Your info saved me a possible huge headache.
Thanks.
