I will second the welding cable method. I have done this and it works perfectly never had a problem. You can purchase the end/lugs for about $1. Stip the welding cable so that when pushed into the solder that the sheathing goes right into the solder. Fill the lug up with lead or solder keep it hot untill you can push the stripped welding cable into the lug.
