You could probably get what you need at NAPA or an auto parts store. Sometimes you can't get the original and just have to cut and strip the wire and install a clamp on style.

Dual batteries are used because of the heater grid installed in the newer trucks. It has a battery to itself because of the amount of current it draws.

you will have to go to DODGE for the cable.

the CTD battery CABLES are so frickin huge that the aftermarket auto supplies do NOT carry them.

after 3 months of checking every napa, carquest, and othe rindependant shop, i ended up at DODGE.

I suggest contacting PArts/ Service (Dave) on here for assistance.

they normally run $100 - $120 depending upon the dealership and whos behind the counter...

I got mine for a "tad" bit less money

The charge-air heater grids typical of the 1st and 2nd gen CTD's draw 220 amps. That's why in the case of the 1st gen, a 1250cca (@ 0*F) battery is specified. Even then, when the heaters run, the lights will dim as the OEM 120amp alternator can't support the heaters without dipping into the battery. That's considered normal operation and is OK.

The Dodge part number for the positive battery cable is ~ 4487 113 (So says the Dodge/Dealer parts book dated August, 1992. Page 8-85). Note: The part number may very well have been superseded but is still good.

Hope this helps.

Do you think that an 18 wheeler or diesel shop may have something that will work? I'd hate to see how much money the dealer is going to rape you for a battery cable.

the DODGE cable will have the extra circuit attachments for the starter solenoid, and some other goofy thing that has been hacked out of my truck...

Here are pre made marine grade battery cables in 4 gauge and 2 gauge, they sell them so both ends have the stud connectors, so you would have to cut one end off and either clamp or solder the end you need on there. This wire is extremely good stuff and is exactly what we put in yachts down in Florida and it is the same store we get it from.
