Default Check GAUGES Light is on

I left work yesterday and as I did the check GAUGES, not check engine, light came on. I looked, and my oil pressure gauge needle was on zero.

I panicked

I shut the engine off, waited a minute, and fired it back up. Same thing. I listened for the engine to get loud, didn't happen. Then i went out and checked for oil. It was fine. So I decided to drive the truck and see what happened. If anything bad happened, I figured the check ENGINE light would come on.When I got to where I was going, when I put it in park, the needle popped up to where it should be.

WHEW !!

I thought it was just a fluke thing, but then when I was leaving the gauge did the same thing. It just sits on zero.

Any ideas?

How should I fix it?

Thanks guys !!

Sounds like your oil pressure sensor is dying. Part # 5012991AD. Check the connector to make sure its clean and tight......

Thanks Dave, I will.

Where is the sensor located? It's kinda hard to tell in that pic.

Its beside the engine control module mounted on the drivers side of the engine block. Look for a silver box about 8 inches by 12 inches square. That is the ECM, sensor is next to that......

I freaked at first because I thought it was my Check Engine Light. Once I realized that it was just my check GAUGES light I felt a bit better.

Thanks Dave. I'll try and locate it tonight. Do you stock the part?

Default oil gauge to 0

the same thing has happened to me, but only after the truck has been shut down for more than 4 hours and it is able to get COLD again, >40 deg. The dealer did a reflash and the truck did it again less than 6 hrs later, they said bring it back in, the oil pressure is nothing because you can hear the valve train rattling. After start the oil pressure goes up to normal then after 30 seconds or so it drops to zero and the valves start rattling, shut truck down and re-start, oil pressure goes up and stays up.

HOLY CRAP 217.00 for a sensor ??

I didn't get a chance to look for it over the weekend. It still flip flops back and forth between working and not working right now. I'm gonna trya and clean it up like you suggested first. If that doesn't work, I'll be getting one from you.

Thanks
