Sure wish you lived near me. I have 4:11s and want lower gears, OH Well.
I think I'd jump on a gear swap with someone if they were resonably close, where are you at?

I agree, there has to be something off on those trucks that are getting crap for mileage. I would suggest getting an oil analysis done at 5000 miles on the oil... see how much fuel is in it. if there is minimal, then you can rule out a leaky injector.

also if you have an open intake & exhaust, that will kill your mileage.

i am thinking about doing that but i think im only a 2k on synthetic oil....... is it still 5000 running synthetic or you think i should go more miles to make sure???

I would be very happy with 17-18mpg.I know it takes some time to break in, I guess it will only get better. I am serously considering a Gear vendor over drive when my truck is out of warranty.

yeah Nick I'd wait till about 5k.... but on the otherhand... if you do have a leaky injector, it might be better to test now. the test is only about $25 bux or so, maybe you should do it now.

So, an open intake doesn't help with mileage??

depends... if you have an open exhaust meaning straight thru muffler & no cat nope, you'll lose mileage. add some backpressure by installing the 4040 aero and you'll be ok. there are alot of things that contribute to your mileage but in general, open exhast & open intake = drop in mileage with part throttle driving but a boost in top end performance.

edit: forgot to add that the way the motor runs is night & day compared to the stock airbox. wouldnt trade mine for anything... well almost.... I'd like to do a custom intake setup.

i know there was a thread a while ago about oil analysis but i cant seem to find it....... whats the website or address to send oil to??? i might wait another thousand miles and give it a better chance to wear more so that way i can get a better analysis of everything rather than sending them fresh oil...

thats the site, thanks steve!!!!!

question: "Our standard analysis costs $22.50.".... that includes fuel content right? and if so fuel content would be the clearest indicator of bad injector(s) right?

yup, call them to be sure. I've been getting mine done at AAA for $25 bux... they send it out to a shop in the bay area. I forget their name...
