Replaced my '97 gas 2500 with an '04 CTD, and had to install a brake controller for my 5th wheel RV. Under the dash placed the controller too close to my feet when operating the clutch and brake pedals. So, I removed the ash tray assembly and fabbed a metal panel to cover the opening from the lid of a 55 gal. oil drum! I mounted the controller in the panel, and painted it with a rattle can. The paint doesn't quite match the rest of the dash, but that's an easy fix.
there is paint out there to match the dash color (I think it'll work)... its used to match dash components. you might give dodge a call and see what they say about using it on metal. worth a shot.
the fab looks pretty good, but you lost your coin holder
the true coin holder is in the seat console anyway. and I found out 3 months ago it was removable. My son was messing around in it and pulled it out and i thought he broke it. but he just figured it out because I was dumb (er)
