1/2 ton diesel?
Had a meeting a work today about future business. Seems like the diesel half ton wars are starting. As we make the charge air tubes (turbo tubes) for both the Duramax and Powerstroke (and the Cummins up to last year), we are now doing protos for the smaller diesels from both gm and ford. These are scheduled as 2011 models, so it wll be a couple years yet. The side note though is that the next gen Duramax, 2009 I believe, is going to be offered in two versions, a 360hp. and a 400hp. and the hoses will be crimped on not clamped as they were. I have heard of a half ton dodge diesel, anyone know what it will be and when it should show up? How about future Hp. numbers for the 6.7? I know with programmers and such the cummins makes tons of power, but on the standpoint of hot rodders, buying a 400hp truck right off the lot is pretty cool. There are a few 6.7's running around my neck of the woods, alot of duramax's, but have yet to see even one 6.4 ford.
I see tons of 6.4's around(I know I do work on them, but driving around too) and I have driven plenty of them. They've got some get up and go, that whole small turbo/big turbo really does help out on turbo lag. And supposedly our service manager has already test driven a diesel F-150 so yeah looks like they are gettin close.
Diesel Power in December 06 had a whole write up on the new Cummins for the 1/2 tons. I think there was one in Diesel World also; but I can't find it right now.
A 4.2 L V6 and 5.6 V8 are on deck
According to their write up theV6 is rated for 270 HP / 420 ft/lb TQ & the V8 is rated 325 HP / 500 ft/lb TQ.
They have mileage numbers for both engines in both the Ram & Durango. Over a 40% increase in milage on both. Combo numbers on both were over 21 MPG.
Looks like they are looking at putting them in the Durango & Rams. The Jeep is also supposed to get the disel in the Limited package ([:@]if it had been in limited I would still be using a green handle to fill up thank you very much).

if you dig through the European sites....all the hybrids are diesel. Toyota actually had to convert the Prius to gas to bring it here if I remember correctly.

According to Automotive News, the Ram 1500’s V8 Cummins turbodiesel (that's not a misprint, it’s a new engine) will have about 260-300 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque, with gas mileage is likely to be about 20 mpg city, 25 highway (compared with the Hemi's 13/17). Acceleration is about 1 second longer 0-60 (9.6 seconds rather than 8.6 seconds) and is good even by car standards. (Remember, that's mileage similar to the Sebring). The engine itself will use the Bluetec technology acquired by Daimler-Benz to pass 50-state emissions rules.
